THE LOWER HOUSE<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The\u00a0House of Peoples’ Representatives\u00a0is known as the\u00a0lower house\u00a0of the\u00a0Ethiopian\u00a0Federal Parliamentary Assembly Located in the capital\u00a0Addis Ababa, the House has 547 members.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u00a0All are elected in theory for five-year term in single-seat\u00a0constituencies. The proceedings in the chamber are led by\u00a0Speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representatives. Of the 547 seats, 122 are vacant.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In 1995, Ethiopia’s\u00a0ethnic federalism\u00a0system was set up with a bicameral federal parliamentary assembly, of which the lower chamber with not more than 550 members as per the constitution. 22 of the 547 seats were reserved for representatives of minority nationalities.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
