In 2008, the President of the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aziza.com.ng\/read\/political-history-of-cameroon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"8743\">Republic of Cameroon<\/a>,<\/span> President Paul Biya signed decrees abolishing &#8220;provinces&#8221; and replacing them with &#8220;regions&#8221;. Hence, all of the country&#8217;s ten provinces are now known as regions. Most of these provinces were designated in the 1960s alongside Centre-South Province (split into Centre and South in 1983). At the same time, Adamawa and Far North Provinces were split from North Province.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8748\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aziza.com.ng\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Regions-of-Cameroon.jpg\" alt=\"Regions of Cameroon\" width=\"539\" height=\"796\" \/>\r\n<figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Regions of Cameroon<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The regions of Cameroon:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THE CENTRAL REGION<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The central region, located at the country\u2019s center is mountainous suitable for hiking, camping or picnics. The climate is humid with abundant vegetation and bordering the Adamawa region. The capital is Yaound\u00e9 with area 68,953km<sup>2\u00a0 <\/sup>\u00a0and populations of 3,905,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THELITTORAL<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Littoral or coast is located in the south west part of the country. This is the area of the sawa people (people of water) there are beautiful sandy beaches on the Atlantic. The cities on the coast have beautiful colonial architecture and monuments. The beautiful mountains Manengouba two hours away and Ekom-Mkam waterfall is also in the coastal region and both are must see.\u00a0 The capital is Douala with area of 20,248km<sup>2<\/sup> and population of 3,178,000\u00a0\u00a0 inhabitants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THE SOUTHERN REGION<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The southern region located in the south west corner of the country, borders the Atlantic Ocean. The beautiful beaches have fined golden. The colonial architecture and monuments mark the history of colonization. You can enjoy the splendor of the natural forest and spectacular waterfall. The capital is Ebolowa with area 47,110km<sup>2\u00a0 <\/sup>\u00a0and population of 1,906,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THE SOUTHWEST REGION<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The southwest region is one of the two English speaking regions of Cameroon. It is characterized by rich green vegetation, heavy rainfall, and abundant agriculture. The area is rich in tourist attraction; you can admire the colonial building and monuments, beautiful botanical gardens and national parks and beautiful beaches. The capital is Beau with area 25,410km<sup>2 <\/sup>and population of 1,503,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THE NORTH WEST REGION<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The area is located (alt. 155 0m) above the sea. The Northwest region is one of the two English speaking regions of the country. The region is dominated by high plateaus, plain and mountain ranges. The terrain is covered by grassy vegetation and the plains are surrounded by mountain massifs. The deep valley shelter stream falls and crater lakes. This wonderful landscape offers a captivating spectacle. The capital is Bamenda with area 17,300km<sup>2<\/sup> and population of 1,906,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THE NORTHERN REGION<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The northern region is composed of several ethno cultural communities, which practice for living agriculture and livestock. With its three national parks, it is the zone of concentration of most representatives\u2019 specimens of the Cameroonians fauna. There is also photo safari, hunting sport and sport fishing. The capital is Garoua with area of 66,090km<sup>2<\/sup> and population of 2,297,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THE WESTERN REGION<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Wonderfully endowed by nature, the western region is the cradle of the Bamileke people. This region is characterized by its rich craft and traversed rivers interspersed with waterfalls. It presents a series of mountains arising from ancient volcanoes and with moderate climate and average annual temperature around 20<sup>0<\/sup>C. The capital is Bafoussam with area of 13,892km<sup>2<\/sup> and population of 1,875,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THE FAR NORTH REGION<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Far north region as the name suggests is the northern most region of Cameroon and is arguably the most beautiful region of Cameroon. Rhumsiki is a veritable Mecca of Cameroonian tourism. The culturally diverse region with more than 50ethic groups who have preserved their ethnic culture. The capital is Maroua with area of 34,263km<sup>2 <\/sup>and population of 3,796,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THE EASTERN REGION<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The eastern region is also called the \u2018Sun Rising Region\u2019 in one of the largest regions of Cameroon.it is partly inhabited by pygmies who are the original inhabitants of the region. The area is dominated by large trees; there are almost 1500 plant species and more 500 animal species. The region has many attractions as well as ecotourism, hunting, photo safari and much more. The capital is Bertoua with area 109002km<sup>2 <\/sup>and population of 830,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>THE ADAMAWA REGION<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Adamawa region is a mountainous borders area between the southern forests and savannahs of northern Cameroon. The equatorial sahelian climate favors agriculture. Agriculture and animal husbandry are the main activities of the population. Although very large, the Adamawa region is one of the populated parts of the country.
