Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)
Petroleum Technology Development Fund was created by Act 25 of 1973, which repealed the Gulf Oil Company Training Fund Act.
During the creation of PTDF, there existed Gulf Oil Company Training Fund, Petroleum Technology Development Fund was set up for the training of Nigerian graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the field of engineering, Geology, Science and Management in the oil sector.
For this reason policy of local manpower development in the oil and gas sector was institutionalized. Due to its creation, government has given a compulsory mandate that international oil companies to employ trained Nigerians.

Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Functions
PTDF provides finance and participate in seminars, conferences connected to petroleum industry in Nigeria or outside the shores of the country.
They provide quality facilities to the faculties in Universities, Colleges or Institutions.
They also provide quality books training equipment’s for Institutions.
Petroleum Technology Development Fund, gives Scholarships as well as Bursaries, wholly or partially in Universities, Colleges, Institutions and petroleum students within the region.

To make use of the existing human resource development facilities in Nigeria to expanded manpower development programs in the petroleum, where applicable, support skills acquisition programs aimed at enhancing employment, in the petroleum industry in Nigeria.
They periodically compute, evaluate and update the basic needs of the Nigeria’s Petroleum industry in term of skills, expertise and know how, promote in country fabrication and manufacturing of equipment used in the Nigeria petroleum industry.
