A brief history of National Center for Women Development (NCWD), Gifmis code, Functions, Duties and Addresses of the Federal Government Agency.

National Centre for Women Development (NCWD)
The NWCD was launched on 17 October 1997, and modeled on the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW). It works together with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. Between 1997 and 2003 the NCWD published a magazine, Images of the Nigerian Woman.

In 2013 President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Onyeka Onwenu as Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NCWD,  Onwenu served for two and a half years, claiming to have raised morale under difficult conditions in which she faced some ethnic opposition. By February 2016 President Muhammadu Buhari removed Onwenu, appointing Abdulmalik Dauda to succeed her as Acting Director General. Onwenu criticised Dauda for reversing some staffing changes, Dauda died in April 2016, In 2017 Mary Ekpere-Eta was appointed Director General of NCWD.

The organization enhances gender equity and women development through research, a databank, training, documentation, advocacy, guidance and counseling, and mobilization of resources.

NCWD ensures quality consultancies and social services, Information Technology, conference and guest facilities.

They make available of these services through a dynamic  leadership,  well-trained,  motivated,  and professional staff.

National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) Duties
They ensure the stimulating consciousness towards the attainment of higher levels of development and activity for Nigerian Women.

NCWD serves as a data bank on women and development in Nigeria.

The Centre facilitates the formulation of policies as well as providing training skill development and income generating activities.

It also provides forum for guidance and counseling and the mobilization of women in both urban and rural areas.

The Centre comes in agreement with National, Regional and International agencies involved in Gender development programs.
