In brief:
National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) is a Nigerian federal government agency established in 2006 to manage and respond to oil spills, promoting environmental protection and sustainable development within the oil industry. It works to ensure industry compliance with environmental regulations, coordinates spill response and cleanup, and acts as a liaison between oil companies and affected communities. NOSDRA also collaborates with other agencies and international bodies to combat pollution and enhance the transparency of the petroleum sector in Nigeria.
The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) issues certificates for various purposes, including the accreditation of environmental consultants and approval of certain environmental management activities. They are responsible for co-ordinating and implementing the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan and establishing the mechanism to monitor and assist, or where necessary, directing the response.
